What is WordPower?
WordPower is a research-based AAC vocabulary system that blends core words, spelling, and prediction to support fast, efficient communication using just 100 high-frequency words that cover half of everyday speech.
WordPower is a unique vocabulary design, based on research and clinical application, for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and apps. WordPower combines the features of core vocabulary, spelling, and word predication to create an easy to learn and efficient communication system. The system takes advantage of the fact that while we may have a normal speaking vocabulary of between 10,000 and 30,000 words, a core of just 100 words accounts for approximately 50 percent of words spoken.
The vocabulary is available across multiple AAC platforms and around the world. Files are available for English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin. WordPower files include layouts ranging from 25 to 144 buttons across the manufacturers. Designs take advantage of the number of buttons to create the most efficient language generation and offer ample symbol support. Additionally, files have been designed for different access methods including touch, head tracking, eye tracking, and scanning.
